Softball: O'Gorman and Washington Come to ... - Inside Dakota Sports

For the second weekend in a row, east river high school softball teams came calling at Parkview to play Rapid City Central and Stevens. And, for the second weekend in a row, the local girls were dominant?winning six of the eight games against Washington and O?Gorman.

On Friday night Stevens beat Washington 12-2. Erica Everson and Brittney Green went back-to-back big fly in the third inning to erase a two run Washington lead and spark the Stevens rally. In the second game, Stevens beat up on O?Gorman 13-0. Central easily handled O?Gorman 11-0, but lost to Washington 6-2 in the nightcap.

On Saturday morning, Central beat Washington 6-1 behind a strong pitching performance from Bretton Lien, and then dropped O?Gorman 10-0. Jo Jo Shriver provided the offensive punch for Central in both games, including a two run double against Washington and a home run over the left-centerfield fence against O?Gorman.

Stevens dominated O?Gorman in the first game Saturday morning 10-1, but lost momentum and focus in the second game and lost to Washington 6-4. Natalie Shaft pitched a great game for Washington, and homered in the third inning. Katie Johnson followed Shaft at the plate with a home run of her own. In the bottom of the fourth, Emily Winckler added her muscle to the home run parade.

The Argus Leader reported on Thursday that Washington was coming west to ?earn respect?, and show Central and Stevens that they belong in the top tier of teams. They did just that. The lesson of the consecutive weekend mini-tournaments is that Stevens, Central, Washington and Roosevelt are clustered at the top of girl?s softball this season. The state tournament is only two weeks away.
