GOP endorses conservative business owner Theis in election to replace Gottwalt in District 14A

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Republicans have endorsed St. Cloud business owner Tama Theis in the race for the vacated House District 14A seat.

The GOP had seven rounds of voting Saturday. A St. Cloud Times report ( http://on.sctimes.com/SrwDX2) says the final ballot came down to Theis and John Severson, a former St. Cloud City Council member.

They were vying for the House seat formerly held by Rep. Steve Gottwalt. He resigned Monday after taking a job with a company that lobbies the Legislature.

His seat will be filled in a special election Feb. 12. If a special primary is needed it will be held Jan. 29.

DFLer Joanne Dorsher has filed to run in the special election.

Theis owns a remodeling company. She touted her conservative values by saying she opposes abortion and same-sex marriage.
