The Indie Fix: Project Stormos | Video Game News & Reviews | Bits ...

Project Stormos dubs itself as the anti-platformer, and once you see it in action it is apparent as to why. The ideal way to complete a level of the game is to never touch the ground after your first jump. This is achieved by essentially chaining jumps together. The game has a series of yellow orbs floating throughout its many levels, and for each orb you gather, you get another jump to add to the chain. Get a combo going, and soon you?re performing aerial acrobatic feats most platformers could only dream of.

It is described as a ?hardcore? game, suggesting a need for tight controls and skill, though it also promises for a plurality of ways in which to complete each level, allowing for multiple playthroughs. As is popular nowadays with games that don?t have an online function, Project Stormos also has online leaderboards, letting you post your best times on the site and rank yourself against other players.

The game is still in its public alpha phase, but anyone can buy in for a measly $5. Once you do, you get access to all future updates. The developer promises a total of 200 levels, a story with ?interesting? characters, and boss fights in the final version. He also hopes to port the game over to consoles, assuming he can get enough gamers to buy into it and help fund the thing.

Along with the latest version of the game, you get an easy-to-use level editor that lets you create your own custom levels, and share them with other players on the game?s site. At the very least, I can see a small group of dedicated fans developing a ton of content for the game, suggesting plenty of fun for your small investment.

I haven?t actually played it yet myself (TOO MANY GAMES TO PLAY!!!), but the video was intriguing enough to warrant a write-up. The thing that would make or break the game of course would be tight controls, and I just couldn?t tell you how well it achieves that. That said, people who have played the game are raving about the addictive quality of Project Stormos, and I couldn?t find a single complaint about controls, so here?s hoping it rocks!

Check out the short video to get an idea of how it plays, and go to the site (link below) to see the extended kick starter video (they already achieved their kick-starter goal btw) to get a lot more info on the game.

You can buy and download the game at the main site here. Available for Windows and Mac!
