NEW ORLEANS (AP) ? Alabama ended up as an overwhelming, though not unanimous, No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll after shutting out LSU in the BCS championship game.
Five of the 60 members of the AP's media panel voted otherwise. Four had Oklahoma State (12-1) at No. 1, and Erik Gee of KNML-AM in Albuquerque, N.M., picked LSU ? just like he said he would before the game.
A couple of voters who expected to vote LSU No. 1 even if the Tigers lost wound up being swayed by the Crimson Tide's dominating 21-0 victory Monday night at the Superdome.
Joe Giglio of the News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., told the AP in an email early Tuesday morning: "The score says it all."
