LAS VEGAS ? An ophthalmologic surgeon who pioneered an implant cataract lens in the 1970s has died in Las Vegas. Dr. Steven Shearing was 76.
His wife, Miriam Shearing, says Shearing died Sunday at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas of a brain aneurysm after complaining of a headache.
Shearing developed a commercial intraocular lens for cataract surgery and was inducted into the Nevada Inventors Hall of Fame in 1989.
His wife is the first female judge elected in Nevada and the state's first female Supreme Court justice. The couple had been married 56 years.
